MISSIONARIES OF CHARITY, PUNALUR

                 DEENA BHAVAN

As per the part of SUPW and EDU 01, a service and capacity building programmes were included in our syllabus. Based on that we the student - teachers were divided into three groups and allowed us to visit three different charity centres. I was in the third group and the place assigned to us was the Deena Bhavan at Punalur. Deena Bhavan is the charity centre under taken by the Mother Teresa charitable trust. There were 46 mothers of age around 46 to 80 range. All of them have some sort of mental disorders. For take caring them one Mother superior and 6 sisters were there. The time allowed us to visit at Deena Bhavan was 2.30pm ; while it was a one day programme. That really disappointed us. Because we got a very short time to spend with them.

We sang a lot of songs for them... some of them also sang with us. It was a great pleasure to see the smiling faces of them. While we got only 2 hours with them... that was an amazing experience for us.
